A Daily Devotional About our attentiveness to God's commands: Isaiah 48:18 If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your righteousness like the waves of the sea. (NIV) When you live according to God's rules, great things happen for you. When you live according to your own selfish and sin-based rules, disaster is sure to follow. When you study the words of God to absorb His wisdom and truth, you live a successful life. When you ignore the words of God, when you ignore His wisdom and truth, your life is bound for failure. God gave you His rules to help you prosper. God gave you His commands to prepare you to see Christ when you die. When you do not follow the commands of God, then the rules or laws of human beings take over your life. Consequently, you lose your freedom. Your instinct as a human being is to go your own way and follow your rules rather than following God's rules or commands. Disobeying God leads to the imprisonment of your soul. Your imprisoned soul leads you to live a severely diminished and imprisoned life. Following God's rules and commands leads you to freedom in your heart, mind, and soul. |
