About being at one with God:

1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. (NIV

We can make our ideas about God and our ideas about our relationship with God overly complicated. God is not nearly as complex as we might want to make Him out to be. God is simple because God is love. Of all the things we need to know about God, what we need to know more than anything is that God is love. To be at one with God requires we walk in His love and share His love with others. To be at one with God requires we turn away from our sinfulness or sinful nature. To be at one with God requires we understand God is within us as well as in every other part of His creation. When we are at one with God, we are at one with love.

We often see people come apart in their life. However, we hold our life together when we are "at one" with God because God is the invisible glue in all creation. In every atom of your physical world, even in your physical frame, the invisible glue holding everything together is the love of God. When you are at one with God, you are in a total oneness with the invisible glue called the love of God. This total oneness we call the love of God holds all things together.
