A Daily Devotional About being sent into the
fire: John 20:21 Again Jesus
said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending
you." (NIV) Jesus knew the consequences of sending out others in His name. Jesus knew in advance about their future hardship, pain, suffering, and torment. Perhaps we might ask what kind of God sends others into the fire knowing in advance they will suffer for Him? Jesus knew more about what was to happen in the future than only the suffering of His followers. Jesus also knew about the glory the people who follow Him would produce in the life and heart of others. None of us wants to suffer, but we must all keep in mind our ultimate goal in life is to glorify God. To glorify Him, we may have to suffer. When we lose sight of His suffering upon the cross, we will become selfish and our own suffering will become important. Conversely, when we see Christ suffering upon the cross then our own suffering becomes totally unimportant. |
