A Daily Devotional This
Devotional Is Related To Dependency And
Co-dependency Issues. About feeling sad because you spend your whole life giving to others and no one gives to you… 2 Corinthians 9:6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (NIV) Many persons do not or cannot give to others without expecting something in return. Lack of humility, ingratitude, and massive unselfishness can cause someone to feel sad because others did not return acts of giving. When we give to others, we must give in Christ's love. When we give to others, we must never give to others wanting or expecting any kind of reward from anyone, including our Lord. Giving to get back is a tragic and sinful flaw in our character. Giving to get back is a flaw nearly all people must erase by repenting and falling down before Christ in humility and godly sorrow. Perhaps we do not realize we give to get back. However, our reactions of sadness when we have given and we do not get back should be an indicator we have a lot of repenting work to do. When we give to get back, we miss all of the joy of God's blessings bestowed upon us because we do not truly have His love in our heart. Expressed another way, we should give because His love is in us, not because we want a blessing from others or from God. |
