A Daily Devotional This Devotional Is Related To Dependency And Co-dependency Issues. Rules Of Godly Common Sense Apply. About finding you are attracted to people in need… Matthew 6:1"Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 "So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. (NIV) The mission fields at home and abroad are teeming with the needy. At various times in our future, the numbers of the needy will swell to untold numbers. When we see people in need, our heart should go out to them just as Christ's heart goes out to them. However, are we to be attracted to people in need or attracted to Christ? Are we to be attracted to the weak and heavy-laden or attracted to Christ who seeks to help those in need? We can, perhaps too often, be attracted to people in need not to help them but to give ourselves an unjustified and sinful sense of power. Of course, we are not to be repulsed by people in need. We are to be touched in our heart to help them, not for any selfish reason, but because they need help and we are called by Christ to help. Christ calls us to help the poor and downtrodden because He loves them just as He loves the rich and powerful. All people have the same need…the need to know the saving freedom and liberating power of Christ. |
