A Daily Devotional About the foolishness of worldly success… Luke 9:25 What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? (NIV) Everything in our earthly life is temporary because our earthly life has an end. Worldly success does not last very long. Worldly success lasts only for a few years and then someone else comes along and lays claim to what we achieved, or remakes what we made, or redoes what we did, or rewrites what we wrote. Worldly success is only an illusion lasting a brief time until we either see the foolishness of worldly success or we get too old to care anymore. Chasing after worldly success is like chasing after the wind. When you catch worldly success you find it is gone or you find success means nothing. Instead of chasing worldly success we should be chasing godly success. When we are successful before God, our godly success traverses the universe and touches the heart of God. When we are successful before God, our earthly success melts away into foolishness. When we are successful before God, what we achieve for God lasts into eternity. To achieve worldly success we must become something or become someone. To achieve godly success we must become nothing. To become a worldly success we must try and conquer part of the world. To become a godly success we must turn away from the world. To become a worldly success we must accept what the world wants us to do and be, then we must try and do and be what the world considers successful. To become a godly success we must reject what the world wants us to do and to be. |
