A Daily Devotional About our Friend in JesusMatthew 9:35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. (NIV) Some of you who read this verse know on the deepest personal level what "harassed and helpless" really means. However, like a glass of water filled to the half-way mark, our life is not totally empty. If we look at this verse, we can see the Great Shepherd caring for those of us who are now or who will be harassed and helpless. We are often put in situations where we feel we have no way out, no one to whom we can turn, and no way to get help. The good news, and the terrific news is we do have someone who cares about us. We have someone who understands our situations in life better than we do. We have a friend in Heaven watching over us day and night. We do indeed have a friend in Jesus. We must always remember our pain is only temporary. Our suffering is only a small blip on the radar screen. In Jesus, we not only have a present hope for a terrific tomorrow, but a compassionate God who is beside us during every step of our journey here on earth. |
