A Daily Devotional About giving to glorify God… Matthew 6:3 But when you give to the
needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that
your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret,
will reward you. (NIV) Our ego speaks. Often, our ego screams at us to get attention for ourselves. Our ultra-selfish ego, the dark place of our soul, tunes our mind so we listen to the voice of Satan. Our selfish ego wants us to get attention for our giving. However, we are called by Christ never to get attention for what we do, what we give, or who we are in Him. When we receive a reward from our fellow men and women, the reward fades in the sunlight of Christ's love. When we give to get the attention we want, our heart becomes corroded. Terribly, as our heart becomes corroded and infected with the glory of our giving, we begin to think more about receiving the attention we want than thinking about the needs of those who need us. Over time our earthly reward collects dust. When we receive a reward from our Father in heaven, God's reward is kept for us in a place where moth and rust do not destroy. To receive our heavenly rewards we must learn to turn off our selfish ego. We must learn to give in anonymous and generous ways. Every day we have an opportunity to do things in secret for others. |
