A Daily Devotional About joy in poverty: Psalms 30:11 You turned my wailing into
dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, 12 that my heart may
sing to you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever. (NIV) When we have lost our worldly things, when we have been able to cut the chains enslaving us to our material things, then we can find joy. We cannot possess money in our heart. However, within our heart resides a special place created by God into which He places His joy. If we are able to shed the chains and shackles of material things, we find His true freedom because we are living life in the spiritual and not in the physical. Living life in the physical eventually leads to death. All living things die, and all material things eventually rot, decay, wear out, or are used up. However, joy is found when we live in the spiritual. When we learn not to worry about material things, joy is possible even in the most difficult of financial or material circumstances. When money runs out, we can still pray. When money runs out we can still praise God, sit in His presence, and speak freely about His glory and grace. Praise God we have His wonder-working power helping us over the mighty obstacles material things present to us. |
