A Daily Devotional About the lie and the truth: The power of numbers… Deuteronomy 7:7 The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. 8 But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath he swore to your forefathers that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. (NIV) Look at the opposite of this verse: God puts His affection on the strongest and the most numerous. The more people you have, the more God will like you. God delivered you not because He loves you, but God delivered you out of slavery for other reasons. Does any of this false verse just above sound familiar? Does any of this false verse sound like it came from the world in which you live: No matter how big or how small you are now, or no matter how big or how small you become in the future, God sees the size of your heart for Him. You can be the smallest and weakest person on earth but in God's eyes you are worthy of His freedom from enslaving sin. Earthly power and being big on the earth mean nothing to God. Power of numbers means nothing to God. However, in God's eyes, righteousness means everything. Love for God means everything. Love for God in spite of all adversities and all obstacles means everything. |
