A Daily Devotional

Gen. 6:5 The Lord saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. 6 The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. 7 So the Lord said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth--men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air--for I am grieved that I have made them." 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. (NIV)

When you are grieved over what you have done…keep looking for the lone bright spot. God created all that exists. God created the people whose hearts were only evil all the time. God also created Noah. From God’s viewpoint, everything was bad but there was a bright spot called Noah. One man preserved all God made by being righteous. You could be just as important as Noah when God surveys everything happening in our world. In Noah's day, God grieved and was sad over the evil in the human heart. However, God also preserved the good by saving Noah. You must look for the bright spots and build upon them. Look for the favorable, not the unfavorable. Just as God did when the deluge destroyed life on earth, you must build from the favorable and may have to destroy the unfavorable, the mistakes, and the bad parts. In your life, separate out what is good and build the future from from the good. Learn to throw away what is foolish and keep the good from God.
