A Daily Devotional
About how money and a spiritual life do not
mix… Matthew 27:3 When Judas, who had betrayed
him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the
thirty silver coins to the chief priests and the elders. 4 "I have
sinned," he said, "for I have betrayed innocent blood."
"What is that to us?" they replied. "That's your
responsibility." 5 So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then
he went away and hanged himself. (NIV) Judas sold Jesus away for
thirty silver coins. We do not know whether Judas knew the full impact of what
he was doing before the fact. However, we do know Judas knew His actions had
produced a tragedy after the fact. We must all realize money or material things
of this world do not mix with the spiritual. We cannot deal with money issues,
profit issues, business issues, corporate issues, or financial issues of any
kind and maintain our spiritual mind and spiritual heart at the same time.
Conversely, in our reality, we must deal with money issues because we all need
money to live. We must all prayerfully try, to the very best of our ability, to
understand the corrupting power of money, understand what money can do to us,
and understand how money is not important to God. When we come to God on our
knees we can kneel down in our physical frame. However, in our spirit we cannot kneel
down if we have money on our minds, money in our heart, or money in our souls. |
