A Daily Devotional About
our rebellion… Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou
eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (KJV) In the beginning and throughout history, we rebelled. We disobeyed. We did what God told us not to do. We had clear instructions and we knew what we should do but we did just the opposite. We knew the consequences of our actions. We lived in paradise in the beginning but living in paradise made no difference to us. We wanted to go into the forbidden land of the knowledge of good and evil. We wanted to know sin. We wanted to experience sin. The tree was not the tree of knowledge like knowledge about chemistry, or mathematics, or astrophysics. The tree was the tree of knowledge of good and evil. We did not want the purity of paradise. We wanted more. We risked our life to know good and evil, and our death was the result. Now that we possess sin, sin effectively possesses us and we instinctively do evil. We must soak in the gravity and absorb the total meaning of our rebellion. We must look out at the world and see how far the world has fallen. We must look in the mirror and see how far we personally have fallen. We must understand how far short of the mark we have fallen because when we see how far we have fallen and we want to be saved from death, there is a person who will save us. The person who will save us from death is named Jesus. |
