About reaching out in understanding… Matthew 25:35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was
thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me
in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me,
I was in prison and you came to visit me.' (NIV) What little understanding we have about all manner of things, yet how great
an understanding we think we have about all manner of things. How great we
consider our understanding to be about all manner of things, yet we are ignorant
in our understanding. However, even when we have little understanding about all
manner of things, others desperately need us to reach out to them and understand
them. Reaching out in understanding is critically important and vital because
others desperately need to see themselves in your eyes. Reaching out in
understanding is vital to others because others need to know someone understands
them. Others need to know you are trying to walk in their shoes. Others need to
know you understand them or you want to understand them. In trying to understand
others, we may often find we understand little about them. Yet even when we
understand little about others but still communicate we are trying to understand
them, we are at least trying to build a bridge to them. When we make attempts to
build bridges of understanding to others, then understanding can begin to form.
We must try to build bridges of understanding with others even when we disagree
with them…even when we are afraid of them…even when we are appalled or
repelled by them. We need to build bridges of understanding with others because
others need to know we are trying to understand them, care for them, care about
them, and love them. |
