A Daily Devotional About seeing with new eyes… John 9:25 He replied, "Whether he (Jesus) is a sinner or not, I don't know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!" (NIV) (parenthesis added) We are all born blind. We are all born blind to the love and reality of Christ because we are born selfish, egotistical, and self-centered. A new baby demands to be fed and changed, not caring at all about anyone or anything else in the world. A new baby does not have the capacity to feel compassion, caring, and love for others or for God. However, as we get older, with God's loving hand upon us, we do learn to love and care for others. Given an opportunity, we can come to see ourselves as we were when we were born. We can come to see ourselves as selfish, egotistical sinners, who do not care about anything or anyone except ourselves. However, this picture of ourselves is not complete until we see Jesus coming into our life, touching us, and healing us from our spiritual blindness. When Jesus touches us, we become a new person, and we exclaim, "I was blind but now I see!" |
