A Daily Devotional About
the selfishness of distress… Luke 6:33 And if you do
good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' do
that. (NIV) You may wish to beg and plead you are not selfish. However, when you are under overwhelming distress, your survival mode of selfishness kicks in. When you are overwhelmed with distress, understanding how selfishness can overcome us is critically important when we are overwhelmed. Sin is selfishness and selfishness is sin. If we are to achieve freedom from the plague of our overwhelming distress and sin, we must see how selfishness works to destroy our life. In the darkness life can sometimes bring, there is a beaming ray of eternal Sonshine flowing down upon you to help you. The darkness of sin, the darkness of selfishness, and the darkness of distress can be washed away in the Light of Christ’s love. When we turn away from our sin, when we turn away from our selfishness, when we turn away from our distress and turn to Christ, we experience a miraculous event in our life. Our act of turning away from our sinful darkness and our turning to Christ begins to minimize and eventually to totally destroy our darkness. Our distress is eased and then erased as we kneel at the foot of Christ’s cross. Our selfishness is eased and then erased as we surrender all we are up to His healing grace. Our sin is forgiven as we come to Christ in utmost humility and love. |
