A Daily Devotional About transforming others Matthew 5:43 "You have heard that it was said, `Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven." The teachings of Jesus are sometimes not easy to take in or easy to live out. This teaching is one of those giving us difficulty. In the world in which we live, power and might are respected. In the world in which we live, being the Sons and Daughters of God is not at the top of most peoples lists of things to do. Becoming a child of God requires growing up and letting the love of God transform us. Loving your enemies, on the surface, is a ridiculous idea. Annihilating your enemies is more sensible according to the way the world works. But when you love your enemies, you have a chance to transform them as you have been transformed. What a witness you can be to someone who is mean, angry, frustrated, or hateful. Love is an invincible force melting down even the most stubborn heart. Love transforms the enemy and melts down the resistance and the attack of the evil one. Just think, if all the enemies of the world were to attack each other, would any of us be left alive? |
