A Daily Devotional About
understanding each other… Romans 12:17 Do not repay
anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.
18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
19 Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is
written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. (NIV) We often fail to understand each other. We are often blind to the needs of others. We often fail to see God in others. We humans are more alike than we are different. The work of evil in the world seeks to infect members of the human race with a disease of the soul called sin. Sin distorts and twists us to such an extent we cannot recognize each other. After sin distorts and twists us, hatred ensues. Tragically, the work of evil is often successful. When evil infects the heart, destruction and self-destruction is the result. When possible, we must see we are more like each other than we are different. The influence of evil separates us, while the force of God unites us. When we look at another person, no matter whom or what we see, the spark of God is in the person's heart. We are all fallible, all mistake-ridden, and covered under a thick layer of sin. Others deserve our forgiveness without conditions. They, like us, can be afraid, insecure, and alone. They may need God as much or more than we do because they may have less of Him than we do. |
