A Daily Devotional About our wants and needs Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want We all have wants and needs. Our thinking would be unrealistic to even consider we have no wants. How could the Psalmist make such a statement? The Psalmist can say "I shall not want" because whatever we want, whether our wants be food, clothing, shelter, good health, money, power, position, anything at all anything we want disappears when God is first in our heart. If we fast and pray, we grow hungry for food after a day of two. We want and need food as nourishment for our body. However, as we pray and battle our hunger during a fast, our real battle is keeping God and Christs love first. Of course, we all need food, clothing, and shelter. We can have the finest food, dress in the finest clothes, and live in a mansion, yet we can still be consumed with the fiery inner hell of living a life separated from God and His love for each of us. If we must want, let us want to be close to our Savior. Let us want to be near the heart of God. Let us want to live a quiet, devout life and witness to others around us to show others how much Christ loves them and cares for them. When we have these kinds of wants, we can proclaim in our heart, "I shall not want ". |
