A Daily Devotional About what we do… Ecclesiastes 2:24 A man can do nothing
better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in his work. This too, I see,
is from the hand of God, 25 for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment? 26
To the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to
the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over
to the one who pleases God. (NIV) We all spend the minutes of
our life in some kind of activity. We watch television, work, sleep, eat, drive
a car, shop, and spend countless hours engulfed in our selfishness. Our
motivation for what we do produces a result within us. A person who cleans up
after others in an industrial plant may hate the work because the work is done
only for the money. A person who cleans up after a messy Sunday school class of
pre-school children may love the work because the work is done for God. A person
who cleans up after others in a homeless shelter may also love the work because
he or she does the work for God as well as being a witness for God. What we do
in our life is not as important as why we do the work. Choices have consequences.
You can choose to work and spend your time for God or choose to work and spend
your time for you. Your driving motivation in life can give you ulcers or peace
of mind depending upon who you choose as your real employer. |
