A Daily Devotional
About bigotry, intolerance, and differences:
Matthew 26:67 Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him 68 and said, "Prophesy to us, Christ. Who hit you?" (NIV)
This is the beginning of His physical torture. The depths and extent of His physical torture have been partially hidden from us. He loves us and He may keep this dark hour from our knowledge to protect us in some way. Each of us would say we would never strike Him. Each of us would say we would never hurt our Savior. However, the men who were physically assaulting Christ were men of the church or synagogue at that time. Jesus was on trial because of church authorities. Jesus was put to death at the hands of church authorities. How do you deal with a religious person with whom you do not agree? How do you deal with person's of a religious faith not your own? Please let this moment at the beginning of Jesus' torture sink deep into your heart, for we are all guilty.
