A Christmas Daily Devotional
About an expression of love
Matthew 1:19 Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. (NIV)
Love is not always expressed by others in the way we want. Likewise, we do not always express love the way others want. Not having love expressed and not expressing love in the way love is wanted or even needed produces great anguish, loneliness, and pain in us and in others. Even in our relationship with God, we may want God to express His love to us in ways He will never do. God may want us to express our love for Him in ways we will never do. On the surface, all this expression of love in unwanted ways can and does produce chaos in relationships and in the world. However, what is most important of all is what is inside our heart, not always the form of our expression. What is important is God loves us, not whether we get prayers answered or miracles delivered according to our wishes or according to our wants. Joseph considered divorcing Mary because He loved her and did not want to expose her to public disgrace. As a result of Joseph's great love for Mary, God intervened and brought Joseph a message in a dream. In each of our lives, if our love is pure and unselfish, God will intervene and bring to us an intervention to bless us and bless the world around us.
