A Christmas Devotional

Have you ever watched the end of a great sports contest? At the final buzzer, the winning team and their fans go crazy because their team has won. The angel appeared to the shepherds and said their good news was full of great joy. The news the angels brought to us is about winning. The news the angel brought was about Jesus. The news was about His mission to help us win at life in our present moment no matter what we face. The good news was also about the joy of winning eternal life in our great tomorrow when we see Jesus face to face. There is a great deal of defeat in life. There is much pain, suffering, misery, and agony in our life. However, when the final buzzer sounds, if we have accepted Christ into our heart, there will be a momentous celebration in Heaven. Think of the greatest joy you could ever experience. Now multiply this joy by millions extended out into the infinity of time. This greatest joy multiplied by millions is the joy God has waiting for you in Heaven. We have a hard time thinking of the great joy of Heaven because some of us have little joy here on earth. We also have a hard time thinking of the great joy of Heaven because when we lose someone in death we are overcome with sadness and grief. However, the sadness and grief belongs only to those left behind. To those who God calls home, who are alive in Christ’ arms, there is joy beyond our ability to understand. In this life, regardless of our circumstances, when we place our lives in Christ hands we can find joy.
