About heavenly and earthly things:

Colossians 3:2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (NIV)

You can control what you think. You can set your mind to think about whatever you choose. The media and advertisers of the world want you to think about material things of the world. There is an irony in thinking about "things" above or in heaven. The irony is heaven does not contain "things" as we know them. Perhaps when we get to heaven the "things" of heaven become things. Certainly, earthly things grab us and can hold on to us. We love our things. However, in loving our things we do not love God. We are to worship God and Him alone, not the "stuff" of the world.
