About loving Christ rather than things:

1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (NIV)

Earthly material things grab us. Walking away from our earthly material things is not easy. We love our stuff. However, in our heart we must choose between stuff and God. The Father above is the source of healing for our broken bodies and broken hearts. Our Christ, whom we love, is the source of peace in life. We cannot invent a machine to mend a broken emotional heart, nor can we invent a machine to mend the life of a person who has been torn apart by sin. Only God, only Christ, can do the healing. For example, when we make choices, which we do every moment, we can choose to love trees or love God. We can choose to love mountains or love God. We can choose to love the sea or love God. The sea may produce fish, but God made the sea. God provides the manna for our soul.
