A Daily Devotional

This Devotional Is Related To Dependency And Co-dependency Issues. Rules Of Godly Common Sense Apply.

About when doing things for others takes us in the wrong direction

Revelation 3:8 I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. (NIV)

Christ sees the innermost part of our heart and soul. Christ sees whether we walk in His power or whether we walk in the absence of His power. When we do things for others, we can do so because we are strong in Christ's love and because others need help from us. Conversely, in our weakness, we can do things for others because we feel forced or coerced into helping them. When we are weak and powerless, we may be selfishly helping others when we really do not want to help them at all. When we are weak and powerless, we can do things other people are capable of doing for themselves because we are being used by others to get what they want from us. What a bitter taste God has in His mouth when we are used and coerced to do anything! When we are coerced, our behavior and our motivations appear to be good and true on the outside, but are, on the inside, quite false. The key to a great relationship with others and with Christ is to live fully and completely in the truth before Him.
